BANASURA SAGAR DAM

At 6km Impounding the Karamanathodu tributary of the Kabini River, Banasura Sagar Dam is the largest earth dam in India and second largest in Asia. It is made up of massive stacks of stones and boulders. The reservoir with small islands and Banasura hills in the background offers serenity at every sight. POOKODE LAKE

at 19km Pookode Lake is a natural freshwater lake nestling amid the Western Ghats at 770 meters above the sea level. One of the peculiarity of this lake is that it is the smallest and highest lake in Kerala. One of the most prominent tourist spot in Wayanad, it is run by the district tourism promotion council with facilities like boating, handicraft and spices emporium, fresh water aquarium etc.

CHEMBRA PEAK

at 35 km Chembra peak is the highest peak in Wayanad at 6,890 ft above the sea level. It is also the largest and highest peak in Western Ghats between Nilgiris and Himalayas. The scenic beauty at its peak and the heart shaped lake in the trekking route makes Chembra Peak a paradise for all nature lovers.

MEENMUTTY FALLS

at 40 km Meenmutty falls is located at a height of 300 meters. A true beauty of nature, the falls is also said to be dangerous during rainy seasons due to high inflow. An interesting trek of 2km inside jungle will lead to this spectacular three tiered water fall.

EDAKKAL CAVES

at 40 km Edakkal Caves are two natural caves remotely located in the Western Ghats. At 3,900 ft above the sea level, the caves are example of mystifying beauty. The stone age carvings of Edakkal are very rare and known to be the only ones in South India indicating settlement during 6000 BC.

THOLPETTY WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

at 52 km Spread across 344.44 sq km this sanctuary is also known as Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary is an integral part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. It houses wide varities of flora and fauna and is a treat to any nature lover.

SOOCHIPARA FALLS

at 35 km Soochipara falls is also known as Sentinel Rock Waterfalls. Surrounded by thick evergreen forests, it is a three tiered waterfall in Wayanad. The falls is 656 feet and also offer a cliff face that is ideal for rock climbing. The water from the falls later joins with Chaliyar River.

LAKKIDI VIEW POINT

at 23 km Lakkidi is one of the highest locations in Wayanad. Situated at 700 m above sea level atop Thamarassery Ghat pass. The nearest town is Vythiri. The lofty mountains, the gurgling stream, luxuriant vegetation along with the bird’s eye view of the deep valley is a breath-taking beauty at the view point.
